BAGHDAD – Iraqi police officials say a string of car bombs have targeted Iraqi security forces in and around Baghdad, killing one and wounding 19 people.
The blasts come as security has tightened throughout Iraq ahead of the funeral of Iraqi Shiite leader Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim.
Two police officials say a parked car bomb exploded Thursday near a U.S. military base north of Baghdad, killing one and wounding six people.
Another official says three car bombs exploded in northern Baghdad, wounding four police officers and two civilians. Another car bomb also struck a police patrol in eastern Baghdad, wounding seven people.
The officials all spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to release the information.
