	When straight arrow FBI agent Roy Clayton heads up the investigation into a dangerous international conspiracy, all clues seem to lead back to former U.S. Special Operations officer, Samir Horn. A mysterious figure with a web of connections to terrorist organizations, Horn has a knack for emerging on the scene just as a major operation goes down. • DiDio on the Titans to Come - a Return, and a Traitor

  As was mentioned here and there at San Diego Comic-Con, and exclusively to Newsarama on video herein case you missed it, the Titan

  s and the Teen Titans will be rollingtogether in the later part of this year as the spillover from Decisions sees a whole load of problems land right on their doorstep.

  Oh, and did we mention that Jericho and Match (the Superboy/Conner Kent clone) are back as well?

  "In Decisions we reveal that there's a traitor in the Titans midst, and that storyline bleeds into the Titans book, and ultimately into the Teen Titans, and we have a new series spinning out also from this storyline - the new Vigilante series, written by Marv Wolfman and drawn by Rick Leonardi," DC Universe executive editor Dan DiDio explained.

  Newsarama readers will recall that the new Vigilante series was announced at last year's Baltimore Comic-Con, and would star the latest incarnation of the character that was introduced by Wolfman when he was writing the Nightwing series.

  The delay in the launch, DiDio said, allowed DC to place the new seriesat a point in the schedule for maximum impact with readers. "We knewthat we wanted a good platform to launch the new Vigilante series, and since the character is historically tied to the Titans [a version of the character was introduced in the New Teen Titans Annual #2in 1983], we wanted to have something that put them directly in theVigilante's crosshairs, and this is the storyline that does it."

  So, as mentioned earlier, Jericho and Match are back in the Titanslives, and...well, "They are fully bound together, and it's up to theTitans to take them apart," DiDio said.

  Following the story, DiDio said that the groundwork of the larger Titans/Teen Titans story will begin in Decisions,which will see a simultaneous assassination attempt on the life of eachcandidate, superheroes become involved in politics, and worse thanthat, there's a traitor among the heroes of the DCU.

  "It's the job of the Titans and the new Vigilante to hunt down thattraitor, and the trail flows directly to the doorstep of the Titans,"DiDio said. "The plan behind it all is to pull the Titans world apart.What we wanted to do is set up a situation where the core was shaken.The idea behind the Titansbook is that these people stay together for no other reason that theyare true friends, and they have complete faith and trust in each other.What happens when that trust is shattered?"

  And yes, if it's something big enough to affect the Titans and the TeenTitans, you can bet that other heroes will be involved in thestoryline. "What happens ultimately in Decisions is that the traitor's identity is made aware to the Justice League, which puts them at odds with the Titans," DiDio said.

  The storyline proper will pick up in Titans #6, due out in October, which follows the conclusion of Decisions, and will run...well, we'll see.

  "We'll see some books take a momentary gap in their stories this fall as things between Final Crisisand the series line up, and then the storylines pick up again, but thisstory will run throughout the first few months of next year."

  Again, as DiDio said the storyline is about the trust that holds the Titans together...but what happens when that trust is gone?

  "That's a question that we're looking to answer."

• "Traitor" dependable as solid, fast-moving thriller

  LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Traitor" is the cinematic equivalent of an airport novel that can be purchased befor

  e a long flight, read en route and discarded upon landing.

  The film, which opens Wednesday (August 27) via Overture Films, is a genuinely gripping tale about international terrorism that hopscotches across three continents. It moves from a filthy, sweaty prison to the air-conditioned headquarters of the FBI as an agent tracks a shadowy Muslim American through a string of conspiracies and fatal bombings.

  The film offers no serious insights into the terrorist mind-set, Wahhabism or jihadist goals. Its characters are built for speed, not complications, though the tangled plot does create a few moral conundrums plus an intriguing third-act twist, albeit one that most viewers will see coming.

  Writer-director Jeffrey Nachmanoff, working from an idea by Steve Martin -- yes, that Steve Martin -- drives "Traitor" through heightened tensions and enough story twists to qualify as a "page-turner."

  Producer-star Don Cheadle dominates the film as the renegade U.S. military operative, but he does so without stealing any thunder from a number of fine actors in meaty roles. The film looks poised to play to a fairly broad international audience, though presumably not in the Middle East.

  "Traitor" launches parallel stories simultaneously when Guy Pearce's FBI agent Roy Clayton and his old-school partner, Max Archer (Neal McDonough), encounter an American citizen inside a Yemeni prison. Cheadle's Samir Horn, who was born in that country, has been caught peddling detonators to militants. When he rejects their offer to exchange information for freedom, the agents figure that's the last they'll see of him.

  But Samir is befriended in prison by a strong-willed terrorist named Omar (Moroccan-French actor Said Taghmaoui). Omar not only appreciates Samir's skills with explosives and combat but also recognizes a fellow true believer. Despite being raised in the U.S. after the assassination of his Yemeni father, Samir has become a jihadist. During a prison break, Omar takes Samir along. Soon bombings in Spain and then France trace back to Omar's terrorist network. A closed-circuit camera even catches Samir leaving the U.S. consulate in Nice moments before a fatal blast.

  The escalating stories on both sides, certain to converge at a fateful juncture, present a classic race against time. As Samir moves deeper into the terrorist network, he makes contact with its Westernized strategists, well-hidden money men and sleeper cells throughout North America. Meanwhile, as Roy frantically maneuvers to discover and disarm a large terrorist attack designed to coincide with Thanksgiving, he grows convinced that there is more to Samir than meets the eye.

  Robust performances pop up at every point. Bollywood actor Aly Khan plays a terrorist disguised as a sophisticated international businessman. Jeff Daniels is a CIA contractor who knows more than he lets on. Mozhan Marno is the agent back at headquarters on top of every move in the international terrorist community. Indian-British actress Archie Panjabi plays an old girlfriend in Chicago whom Samir mistakenly tries to contact. (That last plot turn is poorly motivated.)

  With a sprawling production that spans many international locations, "Traitor" is efficient and convincing. It's a fast ride, but its central character, the enigmatic Samir Horn, is always cool and calm.

• Kasparov loses "traitor" case against pro-Kremlin youth group

  MOSCOW (AFP) - Former chess champion turned opposition leader Garry Kasparov on Thursday lost a court case in Moscow claiming mora

  l damages against a pro-Kremlin youth group that had called him a thief and a traitor.

  Kasparov had sued for 1.28 million dollars (805,000 euros) in damages from Nashi over the leaflet, which was distributed after parliamentary elections in December 2007 that were swept by the pro-Kremlin United Russia party.

  But Judge Tatyana Adamova dismissed the case on Thursday at the Savyolovsky court, giving Kasparov's side 10 days to appeal.

  Marina Litvinovich, a spokeswoman for Kasparov, said the opposition's demands for "fairness and objectivity" were being ignored.

  Since giving up chess, Kasparov has been a strident critic of the Kremlin, saying it has crushed democratic opposition. He spent five days in jail last year for public order offences after leading an anti-Kremlin march.

  Youth group Nashi said there was no proof that the leaflet had been produced or distributed by them. The leaflet said it was published by Nashi, listed the phone number of Nashi's office and was distributed at a Nashi rally.

  Witnesses for Kasparov described in court how they were given the leaflets by Nashi members and a journalist described an interview she had with a Nashi official who admitted that the leaflet was theirs.

  The court refused to view a video from a Dutch television channel where a Nashi official was allegedly shown discussing the leaflets.
