• Lil Wayne hits No. 1 on singles chart

  NEW YORK (Billboard) - Rapper Lil Wayne scored his firstNo. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart Thursday with"Lollipop,&

  quot; the first release from his highly anticipatedalbum.

  Lil Wayne has made 20 appearances on the Hot 100 since1999, most of which have been via collaborations. As a leadartist, his previous best showing was with "Go D.J.," whichpeaked at No. 14 in November 2004.

  His album, "Tha Carter III," has shifted release dates onnumerous occasions and is now expected June 10.

  "Lollipop" flip-flopped with Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love."Jordin Sparks' "No Air" featuring Chris Brown held at No.3.Usher's "Love in This Club" featuring Young Jeezy and MariahCarey's "Touch My Body" were unchanged at Nos. 4 and 5,respectively.

  Madonna's "4 Minutes" featuring Justin Timberlake rose oneto No. 6, trading places with Ray J & Yung Berg's "Sexy Can I."Sara Bareilles' "Love Song" was up one to No. 8, switchingspots with Chris Brown's "With You." Miley Cyrus' "See YouAgain" rose one to No. 10, her first entry in the top 10.

  Mariah Carey's "Bye Bye" was the top debut at No. 23;another song from her current Billboard 200 chart-topper,"E=MC2," the T-Pain-featuring "Migrate," debuted at No. 92.

• Coldplay Tops Hot 100

  Los Angeles (E! Online) - Coldplay got some heavy play on the charts.

  Thanks mostly to massive digital sales, the easy-rocking

  Brit band landed its first No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 as "Viva la Vida" ended the four-week reign of Lil Wayne's "Lollipop." Chris Martin and mates reached the top spot with more than 246,000 in sales of the single for the week ended Sunday.

  The last time a British rock group topped the Hot 100? Twenty years ago, when the Def Leppard power ballad "Loves Bites" infected the airwaves.

  Despite its multiplatinum, Grammy-winning success, Coldplay had previously topped just one U.S. song chart: A remix of "Talk" reached No. 1 on Hot Dance Club Play two years ago. As far as the Hot 100, the closest the band ever came was No. 8 with 2005's "Speed of Sound."

  "Viva la Vida," which benefited from placement in a spaced-out iTunes commercial, is the first rock song to top the Hot 100 this year. In fact, only two rock songs topped the chart all of last year: Maroon 5's "Makes Me Wonder" and Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend."

  Powered by the hit single, Coldplay's fourth album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, is on track for a massive No. 1 bow next week with sales projected in excess of 700,000.

  Meanwhile, the band's Capitol Records label mate Katy Perry rode major airplay gains to No. 2 with "I Kissed a Girl." This is the first time Capitol has claimed the top two spots since Bobbie Gentry's "Ode to Billie Joe" and the Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" 41 years ago.

  Though "Lollipop" slipped to No. 3, Lil Wayne's new single, "3 Peat," entered the Hot 100 at No. 66 as the week's top debut. Still, it's not like losing the top spot could spoil the rapper's party following Tha Carter III's mammoth million-copy sales week.

  Elsewhere, Weezer's "Pork and Beans" and Disturbed's "Inside the Fire" are both in their seventh weeks atop the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts, respectively.

  Finally, Kenny Chesney's "Better as a Memory" jumped three spots to No. 1 on Hot Country Songs. That gives the country crooner three No. 1s from his current album, Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates, and 14 for his career.

• Lil Wayne fends off Coldplay on singles chart

  NEW YORK (Billboard) - With his long-delayed new album dueout next week, rapper Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" began a fourt

  hweek at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart Thursday.

  But there's strong competition from British rock bandColdplay and rookie singer Katy Perry.

  Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" jumped seven places to No. 3 tobecome the biggest Hot 100 hit of its career, surpassing theNo. 8 peak of its 2005 tune "Speed of Sound." The tune appearson an iTunes TV commercial, and Coldplay performed it Sunday atthe MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles.

  Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" soared 16 places to No. 5. HerCapitol debut, "One of the Boys," arrives June 17.

  Meanwhile, Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" was also tops for a sixthweek on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally. Additionally,he enjoyed the top debut on the Hot 100 with "Got Money"featuring T-Pain at No. 13. Both are drawn from his upcomingalbum, "Tha Carter III."

  Elsewhere on the Hot 100, Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" heldat No. 2, Rihanna's "Take a Bow" at No. 4, and Usher's "Love inThis Club" featuring Young Jeezy at No. 6.

  New "American Idol" champ David Cook's "The Time of MyLife" slid six to No. 9. Only three of Cook's 11record-breaking debuts from last week remained on the Hot 100.
